AFMS PG Rules 2026 Out

🇮🇳 Major AFMS PG Update: The Armed Forces Medical Services has released the 2026 admission rules for MD, MS, DNB and MDS courses in AFMS institutions.

🚨 For Civilian Candidates: An AFMS seat is not the same as a normal Government PG seat. Service liability, age limit, medical fitness and a major bond condition apply.

What Has AFMS Released?

DGAFMS has published the Information Bulletin for PG Courses in AFMS Institutions through NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026 for the 2026–29 academic session.

Who Can Take AFMS PG Seats?

AFMS admissions follow a priority system.

Priority I

Serving AFMS officers detailed for postgraduate training.

Priority II

Eligible sponsored candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries and applicable AFMS officers.

Priority III

Medical/dental officers officially sponsored by:

• Para Military organisations
• Other Government of India organisations

Priority III candidates can choose only those subjects mentioned in their valid Sponsorship Certificate.

Priority IV

Eligible former Short Service Commission AFMS officers.

For the 2026–29 session, the applicable release-date and service conditions must be satisfied before admission.

Priority V — Civilian Candidates

This is the category most relevant to regular civilian NEET PG candidates.

Civilian doctors can be considered for surplus AFMS seats, but special service and eligibility conditions apply.

Priority V: 5-Year Service Liability

🎖️ Civilian candidates admitted under Priority V are liable to serve AFMS for 5 years after completing their PG course, subject to being eligible for commission.

AFMS offers these seats primarily to meet its future specialist requirements.

₹60.5 Lakh Bond for MD/MS/DNB

For the 2026–29 session, a Priority-V civilian candidate taking an:

• MD
• MS
• DNB

seat must execute a bond of:

₹60,50,000

This amount becomes payable to the Government of India if the candidate is unwilling to join AFMS when offered commission after successful completion of the course.

For MDS, the notified bond amount is ₹55,50,000.

⚠️ Do not fill an AFMS seat casually. Understand the service commitment before adding AFMS institutions to your MCC choices.

Priority V Age Limit

For civilian Priority-V candidates:

Maximum permissible age is less than 30 years as on 31 December 2026.

This means the candidate should have been born:

On or after 1 January 1997

Age eligibility is checked along with other admission conditions.

Medical Fitness Is Mandatory

Priority-V candidates must satisfy the medical standards required for commission in the Armed Forces Medical Services.

A designated AFMS Medical Board will assess the candidate.

⚠️ MCC allotment does not guarantee final admission.

Even after receiving an AFMS seat through MCC, admission can be denied if the candidate:

• Exceeds the applicable age limit
• Fails medical fitness
• Does not satisfy eligibility
• Does not produce required original documents

Important 3-Year Debarment Rule

Priority III, IV and V candidates may become ineligible for AFMS PG admission for 3 years from the year of joining if an earlier AFMS seat was wasted because the candidate:

• Cancelled the seat
• Failed to report within the prescribed admission period
• Left the course mid-session

Leaving a course may also attract applicable bond and university charges.

How Will AFMS Counselling Work?

Priority I & II

Counselling will be conducted by DGAFMS.

Priority III, IV & V

Counselling will be conducted online through MCC on a merit-cum-choice basis.

All applicable candidates must:

1. Qualify NEET PG 2026.
2. Register on the MCC portal.
3. Opt for AFMS.
4. Select the correct priority.
5. Fill AFMS institute/course choices when MCC opens choice filling.
6. Download the provisional MCC allotment letter if selected.
7. Report with all required original documents.
8. Complete AFMS eligibility and medical verification.

Selected candidates should be prepared with documents including:

• NEET PG 2026 Admit Card
• NEET PG 2026 Rank Card
• MCC registration details
• MCC provisional allotment letter
• MBBS marksheets
• MBBS degree/pass certificate
• Internship completion certificate
• State Medical Council registration
• Class 10 certificate for age proof
• Nationality proof
• Attempt certificate
• Transfer/Migration certificate
• Applicable priority-specific documents

Priority III candidates also require valid sponsorship/study-leave documentation.

Priority IV candidates require applicable AFMS release documentation.

Has MCC AFMS Counselling Started?

📌 Not yet.

As of this update, MCC has not published the NEET PG 2026–27 AIQ/AFMS counselling schedule.

There is therefore no new MCC registration or choice-filling deadline yet.

Candidates interested in AFMS should use this time to check their priority, age, medical eligibility and service commitment.

AFMS can offer excellent postgraduate medical training, but Priority-V candidates should never select an AFMS seat only because the college or branch looks attractive.
