NEET PG 2026 Exam Pattern & Security Reforms Officially Confirmed
The Health Ministry has confirmed NEET PG 2026 will be held in one shift with 180 questions in 210 minutes, across 340 cities and over 1,300 centres, with Aadhaar and biometric authentication.

What Has Been Officially Confirmed?
The Union Health Minister reviewed the preparedness for NEET PG 2026 on 1 August 2026.
The examination will be conducted:
- In a single shift
- Across approximately 340 cities
- At more than 1,300 examination centres
- With Aadhaar and biometric authentication
- Under enhanced multi-layer examination security
A total of 2,73,183 candidates have successfully registered for NEET PG 2026.
NEET PG 2026 Exam Pattern
The examination has been rationalised to:
180 Questions
210 Minutes
This means candidates will receive more time per question while the overall examination duration remains unchanged.
Single-Shift Examination
NEET PG 2026 will be conducted in one common shift across India.
This is important because all candidates will attempt the same examination during the same session.
Candidates should rely only on the reporting time and examination timing printed on their official admit card.
Expanded Test-Centre Network
The examination is planned across:
- Approximately 340 cities
- More than 1,300 centres
- Over 60,000 examination functionaries
The expanded network is intended to improve accessibility and help candidates receive test centres closer to their place of residence.
Test-State Preference System
Candidates were required to select three preferred test states:
- The correspondence state as the mandatory first preference
- Two neighbouring states as the remaining preferences
⚠️ NBEMS can still allot a test city or centre elsewhere in India due to security, technical, logistical, administrative or other unavoidable reasons.
Aadhaar Authentication Is Important
Aadhaar-based verification will be used during:
- The application process
- Examination-centre registration
- Examination-day identity verification
Where fingerprint authentication is unsuccessful, NBEMS may use iris-based verification or another identity-verification method.
What Candidates Must Do Before Exam Day
- Check that your Aadhaar details are correct.
- Ensure that your Aadhaar is unlocked.
- Keep the original prescribed identity document ready.
- Avoid applying mehendi, ink, paint or colour to fingers, hands or palms.
- Reach the centre well before the reporting deadline.
- Follow all biometric and security-verification instructions.
🚨 Important: Mehendi, ink, colour or another substance on the hands may interfere with fingerprint authentication.
Strong Examination Security
The official preparedness review confirms the use of:
- CCTV surveillance
- Candidate frisking
- Aadhaar and biometric verification
- Signal jammers
- Centre sealing and advance verification
- Live central and regional monitoring
- Independent observers and appraisers
- Encrypted question-paper preparation
- Controlled digital decryption at the scheduled examination time
Do Not Believe Paper-Leak or Marks Claims
The Ministry has warned candidates not to trust anyone claiming:
- Prior access to the question paper
- Guaranteed marks
- Rank improvement
- Examination assistance
- Admission guarantee
- Access to confidential examination information
